54-Count Tax Fraud Case Has FBI Looking for Truckers
One Georgia tax preparer faces a 54-count federal indictment on multiple charges. At least 26 truckers were defrauded through this extensive tax fraud scheme. Many of those defrauded were self-employed truck drivers or independent owner-operators.
What happened was that when the truckers went to make an estimated payment, she would allegedly pocket their money instead of forwarding it to the IRS. Diane Marie Poe, 62, the owner at Genuine Financial Services in Walton County, Georgia, offered services including payroll management, bookkeeping, tax preparation, and filing assistance.
When independent owner-operators would provide Poe with money for estimated tax payments or employee-related assessments, prosecutors accuse her of pocketing the money instead of delivering the financial services they paid for.
What the 54-Count Indictment Includes
On August 12, 2026, when a grand jury returned with a 54-count indictment against Poe, the charges included:
32 bank fraud-related charges: Each count carries a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison.
14 payroll-related tax offenses: For every count, there’s a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison.
2 counts of federal program theft: Every count carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
4 counts of failure to file a corporate tax return: She could receive a maximum penalty of 1 year in prison for each count.
2 counts of making and subscribing a false return: Each count carries a maximum of 3 years in prison.
Under the federal justice system, there is no parole, so she would need to serve any sentence given in full. All accusations remain unproven until the government has established guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
The FBI is Looking for More Victims
The FBI and federal investigators believe that the extent of this crime goes even beyond what’s shown above, which is why they encourage victims to come forward.
Some of the clients at Genuine Financial Services may still be wondering if their returns were filed. They should speak with FBI Atlanta at 770-216-3000. Specifically, the authorities want to hear from those who believe they may have missed deposits or uncompleted services.
You want to do this because if you trusted this company with your payroll records, filings, or money owed to the IRS, those missing deposits could leave you facing unexpected liabilities.
Financial Services Marketed toward Truckers
These services were heavily marketed toward truckers because independent owner-operators face a notoriously complex tax landscape. These drivers are heavily dependent on trusted local accountants for those services.
This is what Poe allegedly exploited. For example, she is accused of stealing the remittances after being paid them instead of forwarding them to the IRS. Many of Poe’s clients came by word-of-mouth, which is why the FBI believes there could be more victims.
On top of the charges she allegedly committed against truckers, she is also accused of not properly filing or paying her own business taxes, and she is accused of failing to account for payroll taxes from her employees.
