Man Arrested in $105 Million Semi Truck Investment Fraud Scheme That Duped Hundreds of Victims
It was a fraud scheme where investors would put money into semi trucks. Over 500 investors lost money in this $105 million fraudulent scheme. At the center of this alleged fraudulent behavior stands a Henderson, Nevada, man (formerly from Georgia), Kristopher Lunsford.
A federal court indicted Kristopher Lunsford of wire fraud and money laundering on September 25th. Greg Kehoe, the U.S. Attorney, formally stated that Lunsford faced charges for the scheme that unfolded from December 2023 to May 2025.
At Trucker Social, we’re going to take you into the specifics of this case and show you what all happened.
The Formal Charges against Kristopher Lunsford
In unsealed documents, Kristopher Lunsford faces wire fraud (6 counts) and money laundering (2 counts). It is alleged by his victims that he carried out fraud that involved leasing semi trucks. What would happen is that he told people of an investment to buy the leases for semis.
When they would purchase the lease, they were promised weekly payouts that would ultimately lead to a return of 260% on the investment, or so it was claimed.
Lunsford led investors to believe he held 2,000 semi-trucks in his inventory. In truth, he allegedly only had 20 trucks. Many of the semi trucks he had were in need of repair or totally unsalvageable. The scheme involved Lunsford using $75 million to pay back the money to previous investors.
When he was unable to keep affording it, he would eventually lose everything and face charges for fraud.
The additional $25 million that Lunsford made off this scheme would fund his extravagant lifestyle. He would pay $2.5 million for private charters, $4 million for nightlife venues, and $4.1 million on resorts. In one photo, Lunsford is even shown holding up a $75,000 bottle of champagne.
U.S. Attorney Greg Kehoe would say that he spent the money on lamborghinis, jewelry, and fuelng a lavish lifestyle. He would continue by saying that no investment scheme that is true is going to pay you that much money. This is why you need to do your research before you invest.
Each wire fraud charge carries 20 years in prison. He could face 10 years in prison for each money laundering charge. One thing to remember is that these are all allegations. Lunsford is innocent until proven guilty in the court of law.
Many of the Victims Were in Tampa
Many of the victims of this fraud scheme were living in Tampa, Florida. That is originally where the fraud scheme was reported despite Lunsford living in Henderson, Nevada.
The victims especially came from Tampa because Lunsford would heavily recruit investors from the nightclubs, local bars, and barbershops. While the victims came from Tampa, this was a nationwide fraud attempt, and there are victims from all over the U.S.
Investigators believe that at least 600 investors were defrauded of money. They are seeking the forfeiture of the $105,940,214.93.
